 | 08:00 pm - Necklace Display I am going to college in the fall (yippie!) and I have a lot of unique necklaces that kind of shows my personality, I was wondering if there was a way to cheaply display necklaces? Not on the wall with nails or anything but some sort of metal structure or something to hang necklaces off of.
AND I was wondering if this is a good idea...or would just keeping them in a jewelry box be better? Thoughts?

 | 07:53 pm - Buffer - probably a silly question. I'm a total beginner when it comes to metalsmithing. Most everything i've done has been in my old high school art class. I've been trying to get back into it, because I miss it very much but i'm a little lost as far as equipment goes. I've just been working with sheet nickel silver so far. I was wondering if there is anyway I can get that finished buffed look on my work without buying a full out buffer. Do handheld buffers exist? Can I use a car buffer and just buy the proper wax for it? I am pretty lost, so I apologize if this sounds absurd. Also, any advice for someone just starting out at home would be great. The only equipment I have is a jewelers saw, torch, flux, ring mandrel. Anything else I should get?
Thanks in advance!
Just for fun, picture of a ring I made.

 | 10:15 am - Question someone here may be able to answer Hello! I found this community through a series of attempts to find a way to get two custom made rings done with little success.
I went yesterday to a professional jeweler only to be told there might not be a way to do what I want, so I've gone looking for other means to get the metal cast as I hope to have it. Basically, I want a pair of custom rings done in the style of a Chinese legend about the silken red thread that ties two soulmates together.

 | 07:19 pm - any ideas?
I'm after some bright ideas. I'm trying to make an earring that goes through 3 of the holes in my ear. This is a mock-up of the basic design done in a meeting at work with a paperclip, so it's not quite as classy as the final piece, which is going to be in red gold. It's basically a simple spiral. The long straight bit is the back, and this will become a graceful curve with a blob soldered to the end.
The other end is the problem. This is the bit I need to push through my ear. My original plan was to put a thread on the end, then drill into a second blob of gold and put a tap in, so I could simply screw the end on like a belly-button ring. However, I've done some playing with taps and threads and have discovered that it's not that easy. So I need another idea for a detachable end, that I can remove to get the piece in my ear, then attach once it's in. I'm thinking reasonably subtle - red gold or wood would be good, but I'm open. My best idea so far is to drill into a wooden ball and fill the hole with blue-tac (I think this is called plastik-tak in the US), but... meh. Anyone got any better ideas?
