While it's not very often, sometiems people appraoch me asking me to make copies of someone else's work.

That's really awkward for me.

Usually, I can figure out how to make such a copy, technically... but I am really reluctant to do exact copies of other people's work, since I would not be all that keen on someone else doing exact copies of various of MY designs. Karma, y'know?

Basically, I figure- if you like Person X's work a LOT- contact her or him, and get something made especially for you, even if they do not usually work in your preferred metal- they may well be happy to do a one-off for you, given your enthusiasm for their work. I know I'm susceptible to this!

And this leads to happiness on the parts of both the client and the original artisan- it's much better, I think, than to ask someone else to do a knock-off. I know I have both personal and ethical qualms about doing such.

Frequently, when I've had someone ask about copying someone else's design, it's because they think I'll do it for cheap. Uh, no.
